A BEDROOM FIT FOR A KING

Childrens mattressWith the recent birth of the Baby Windsor, the whole country has been swept by baby fever! We usually concentrate on interior design and household tips, so we thought it would be fun to give our slightly alternative tips to help with creating your own baby's bedroom! Your baby might not be welcomed into the world by 100 photographers and reporters, but you can give the heir to your throne a perfect welcome with a stylish and functional bedroom.

We just can't resist a good bandwagon. All aboard!

A Colourful cot – There are a number of reasons why a cot should specifically be colourful. The main reason is that, for some reason, all baby furniture and clothing is white or very pale! That's pretty boring, right? Colours are scientifically proven to help a young baby's brain to develop and, equally, they look very nice.

An incredibly comfy chair – Unfortunately this bedroom is going to become a second (or even first) bedroom to you! It's all part of the journey of becoming a parent of course, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have some comfort. A comfortable armchair will give you somewhere to sit and rock the baby, sing a lullaby or grab 40 winks for yourself! Make sure the chair has a contemporary style to suit your home because, at a later date, it can be moved into the living room!

An ottoman or big toy box – This seems pretty obvious but there will be things (usually toys) which you will just lose the will to tidy into their correct, neat and tidy homes. It's OK, ottomans and chests are in fashion at the moment, so you can have it for yourself once your baby has grown a little and can keep their toys perfectly tidy and organised (you can hope, right?!)

Organic duvet – As well as contemporary furniture, we are constantly trying to promote and healthy lifestyle, with organic mattresses and bedding being the main focus. Babies have incredibly sensitive skin, so you want to keep them as far away from as many chemicals and synthetic fabrics as possible. A 100% organic cotton duvet will give your child a soft, chemical free environment to sleep in. Young babies spend the majority of their day in their bed/cot so this really is important.

Wardrobes and storage which will last! - It might be tempting to get cute, ornate furniture with bunny rabbits on it, but storage furniture can be expensive and quickly add up if you have to replace it every couple of years. Solid oak furniture will last a lifetime if cared for properly, making it the far more economical option. You can add 'flair' and any themes to the room through wallpaper, posters and decoration, all of which are easy to replace over time.
