Ethnicraft - A Short History of Success
Posted by Alex Greenan on 22nd Jul 2013
Ethnicraft are widely considered to be one of the finest designers and manufacturers of contemporary, precision made solid oak and teak furniture. Their collections are incredibly wide and varied, providing as much choice as possible for anyone who wants to add Ethnicraft to their home. Their solid wood furniture is famous for blending cutting-edge designs with tremendously durable materials.
Companies like this aren't born overnight. They are often born from very simple beginnings, from simple inspirations or a tremendous enthusiasm to create something new and original.
We've put together a small time-line explaining the journey Ethnicraft has taken to transform from two travelling friends to a multi-national contemporary furniture brand:
-Two Belgians friend embark on a round the world trip, falling in love with teak furniture and the ornate uniqueness of eastern decoration. They took as many of their favourites home as possible, selling them before they knew it. The success of this new venture, coupled with the new found love for furniture and design led to the creation of Ethnicraft.
-After a year as a small retail shop, Ethnicraft decided to import and sell their own teak furniture and supply other retailers, building the profile and reputation of the brand in Europe.
- Ethnicraft decided to start designing and manufacturing their own furniture. Their own designs would later become something which would separate them from rivals and competitors.
- The continued growth and popularity of Ethnicraft required more stock and greater quality control. They opened their own production unit in Indonesia, representing one of the biggest steps for the brand.
- As designs and sales flourished, Ethnicraft added further to their brand. They copyrighted the term 'Emorational' as the perfect way to describe their furniture. It is a blend of the words 'emotional' and 'rational'. Basically, it's furniture you love, that actually works!
- Ethnicraft now employ over 2000 people in their furniture production, as well as retailing at 1200 stores. Alongside teak, contemporary oak furniture has now become their main focus. Ethnicraft oak furniture is a refreshing new way of looking at a fairly well-known medium. The brand is known worldwide for its style and is now happy to offer FSC certified sustainable woods in many ranges.
What's next for Ethnicraft? - For Ethnicraft, the only way continues to be up. They are constantly looking for new creative designs, materials and retailers.
That trip around the world certainly seems a long time ago, that's for sure.
