Our Favourite Contemporary Extending Dining Tables
Posted by Alex Greenan on 19th Aug 2013
We are big believers that a dining table should be multi-purpose and versatile. No two days are the same, and you might need more space on some days than others. An extending table provides the choice, depending on your needs. This kind of versatility makes both day tot day dining and dinner parties much, much easier. Here are our favourites:
1.SKOVBY- Round Extending Table.
One of the coolest tables you'll ever see. You don't get modern design without designers and manufacturers who are trying to make cutting edge innovations, which is exactly what Skovby have done with this. As you can see in the picture the table starts as a simple circle, and with a little magic, transforms into a much larger table in a shape which we are describing as 'space shamrock'. There may or may not be a more accurate name for this shape. 10/10, Skovby.
2. 4 Living - Contemporary Oriental Black Lacquer Extending Dining Table
One of 4 living's stand-out pieces from their flagship contemporary oriental collection, the black lacquer extending table is the perfect combination of style and functionality. The sturdy hardwood frame of the table makes it a perfect dining table for everyday use in teh kitchen or dining room. Once extended to 220cm, the table is ready to seat 8-10 for a dinner party or family gathering. The luxurious lacquer finish provides a sense of occasion, synonymous with china.
3.Ethnicraft - Solid Oak 'Stretch' Dining Table
The 'Stretch' dining table from Ethnicraft is a blend of the slick design mechanism of the Skovby table and the bulky, solid European oak designs which Ethnicraft have built their reputation around. The table has a really natural feel to it, which is exemplified by the single panel of wood which makes up the table top. Once the extending leaf smoothly slides in, you can see that all of the grain lines up, which only adds to the natural flow of the piece.
