Throwback Thursday is our way of paying homage to some unfairly forgotten styles, as well as mocking a few that deserved to be forgotten. Every Thursday we'll try and inspire you with something we've plucked out of the 4 living time machine, but we'd love some suggestions from our readers! Tweet us @4_Living with your best/worst interiors from the past, and you might see them here on the site!

60s Storage Unit- Such a classic 60s design. The inset, angled legs and curved handles are absolutely classic features for this era of modern design. I love this style of furniture because, unlike some older styles, it's style young enough that you might see some around. The diner style stools, which are still very popular for breakfast bars, are part of this period of design, so it hasn't been entirely forgotten.

If you look at the frame of this storage cabinet, you can see a shape which reminds me very much of some of our contemporary solid oak and teak furniture from Ethnicraft, such as the Ligna sideboard. Even furniture has ancestors.

Victorian Desk- Much like the 60s storage unit, you can see how the design of this desk has influenced some of today's contemporary furniture designers. The chunky, linear design was an extremely popular style at the time, designed to make men feel powerful at their desks.

It's interesting that a simple desk like this, designed for functionality, would work well in a contemporary interior. You could argue that the more ornate designs, which were considered to be the height of design, have not aged nearly as well.
